Information is an addiction. It is the new drug epidemic.
Just look at your Facebook feeds. Gathering, debates, judging others, ad’s, games, prose and poetry of the mind.
Corruption of the soul, chastising of courage.
Everyone is selling something, either a persona, an agenda, or a profit margin.
We look, we laugh, we judge, we meddle.
I am no perfect person to say I have not partook in these behaviors at points in my life.
I have yet to meet a single person on a personal level whom hasn’t displayed one or more of these negative traits.
Yet. We still strive to be better. I think that is key here. the STRIVING. Too many have claimed they have arrived. Arrived where?
The realest people I have met, are like the 20 sided die in Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Multifaceted.
You have up’s and downs, you have days you are great, and days you suck, days you are strong and days you are weak.
The key to being better, is just being real with yourself. Laugh at yourself. Love yourself. Love the faults as much as the strengths.
Work hard at something. Work obsessively. Find balance. Love life. Love hard. Live hard. Die Hard. Life is simpler than we make it.
But unfortunately it seem’s like everyone is a GURU these days.
Self proclaimed masters of the universe. Gordon Geckos of the internet.
But they aren’t peddling penny stocks or options. No. They are peddling something far more insidious and far more dangerous.
Information is the foundation of knowledge. Knowledge is the foundation of success, when mixed with the catalyst of action.
There are 3 types of people when it comes to information.
Hoarders – People who find and hold onto massive amounts of information. To be used at a later time. Which that time never shows up.
Actionistas – People who also collect information, but put into action the information they collect, or store for a future plan.
Manipulators – Some people obtain knowledge to further their own agenda and use knowledge or information as a tool of power to manipulate others.
Remember i said they are peddling information?
Here is the real danger in it.
It is just that. Information, it is not right, nor wrong.
It is not verified, not quantified, it is not tested outside of aggressive theory or abstract concepts.
Cloaked in sound bytes, and brandished with ample cliche’s.
Spewed forth as old writ, with a flair, a spin, a personal stamp, an identity, a name. An ego.
It is extremely colored in all directions, tainted and diluted by countless reiterations.
Information and action is the corner stone to success.
But choosing wisely the information you chose to read, listen to, and act upon. Or the people you choose to surround yourself with, all play a huge part on your success.
Giving someone else advice you would not do yourself is as easy as making peanut butter and honey to humans. I substitute honey for jelly.
We can all come clean that we are all semi addicted to information, the acquisition of it, the dissemination of it, and the binding of it to our ego. It shapes us. Or at least we let it shape us.
The way to really break free is to realize everything you hear, see, read is colored or tainted to make you feel a certain way.
Every news feed, every GURU on the internet with a loud or silent personality, with obnoxious or beautifully prosed videos, blog posts and data, is in fact, looking to hook you for their own needs.
The need to be fulfilled by others. You can even say I am doing it right here. My need for you to read this blog and invest into my thoughts.
Why else would someone look to help you out of your situation? Because they love and care for you?
Sure. Some are truly genuine. I’d like to think myself as that sort of individuals and I have met many others who are warm hearted caring and compassionate.
Most really want you to buy into THEIR form of ideology, make THEM more money, stroke their ego, and ultimately detach yourself from YOUR ego, so you can CONNECT to theirs.
Information is dangerous simply because too many people will marry the sound byte, they will become de-individualized and de-personalized to become franchised with the thoughts of the bigger whole. The group that is spewing said information.
Information itself is great, but it is the groups or humans that push it, which make it harmful. IF you are constantly bouncing from one mindset to another, all you are doing is looking for a place for your ego, (AND their ego) to shelter up and feel comfy. Nothing else.
So be careful of who you let in, and be careful of what you attach your mindset to, because all that glitters is certainly not gold.
Information is one of the best things we can gather in today’s age, it just needs to be better filtered, and better tested before it becomes law of the land.
To a new year of FREE thinking, self building, and greatness building.
